A Response to an Article Concerning the Decline of Cases of the Flu this Season

An article in the Daily Citizen, posted by Matt Zachary on December 11, 2020, cites CDC statistics and reports that cases of influenza are down 97% from 2019.[1]

 

These are the sort of things that cause us to question everything we are being force-fed about COVID-19. We are confident we cannot trust any of the statistics. We can't trust the number of people who have gotten COVID-19. We can't trust the accuracy of the tests for COVID-19. We can't trust the statistics for the number of deaths from COVID-19. We don't trust the efficacy of the vaccines we are presented with. My father-in-law used to say, "Figures can't lie, but liars can figure." It appears to a substantial number of us that there has been a lot of "figuring" going on.

I want to give kudos to those who question the science being foisted upon us during this Chinese Coronavirus crisis. While I understand having "leading experts" in any field, I also understand that no human being has all of the answers and, sometimes, a human's personal paradigm prevents him or her from seeing the answers at all. Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx come to the table with blinding paradigms.
It's time to hear from those who see from a different angle. Dr. Rand Paul certainly has his own paradigms, but his voice offers a new perspective.

The Public Perception

I personally do not believe that the Chinese coronavirus, though real, is a threat to human existence. It does appear to me that it could be a threat to human existence as we have known it. The civil liberties of Americans have not only been threatened, they have all but been removed. Now that there is talk about loosening the shelter at home orders, there is also talk about how life will be different than it was pre-COVID-19. 

·       Will we ever shake hands again?

·       Will we ever enter a grocery store without a mask again?

·       We will ever willingly speak to a stranger again, smile at an unknown person on the street again?

I have watched, over the past 38 years in the ministry as even churchgoing people, those who claim to love the Lord, are more germophobic and willing to sit in a chair next to people they have known for 20 years. It used to be they said that Americans will tolerate a crowd until a building reaches 80% capacity. Really? Are we going to let the world dictate that a building is full at 50%? Are we honestly going to allow the government to mandate that restaurants must get our personal information and surrender it in order to serve us? Will we allow the same demands of our churches? 

I know.

I hear the bravado statements of those patriots claiming, 

·       They’ll never get my DNA!

·       I’ll never wear a mask in a store!

·       They’ll never come to my house to test me for COVID-19!

I think my father in law was the first one I ever heard say, “Never say never.” The fact is, if 40-50% of the American people really are convinced that the Chinese coronavirus is going to kill them off, then the patriot doesn’t stand a chance of standing his ground.

The battle right now, at least one of the major fronts of the battle, must be public relations. There needs to be an all-out assault of verifiable, believable, and credible information refuting the death knell of Chinese coronavirus. We need to flood the world with reason, facts, and, if the person is a believer, faith that we need not fear this virus. Be cautious, yes. Wash our hands, yes. But remain socially distant for the remainder of our lives? Certainly not!

Nothing has changed since December 2019, except our perception. There have always been bugs, viruses and bacteria that are a threat to those with health complications. It is also truer now that probably any other time in recent history that Americans, in particular, are less healthy, less able to fight off illness. Some good old-fashioned re-education on physical fitness, especially among the aging population (maybe 45 and up) would be helpful. But still, nothing has changed except our perception.

The answer to this battle for American liberty in the future rests, to a large extent to a large extent, on resetting our perceptions. If not to pre-2020, at least to something other than fear of common diseases.

Never Again

Never Again

When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and the United States entered into WWII, first against Japan and then against Germany, fear struck our nation.

America rallied the most powerful war machine the world had ever seen. People of all walks of life enlisted to fight. Great manufacturing companies converted to make weapons, ammunition, planes, and bombs. Housewives went to work in those factories, replacing their husbands, fighting overseas. They welded, riveted, and assembled the tools their men used to defeat the enemy. Back at the house, families rationed food supplies so the focus of the economy could be poured into the war effort. Navajo Indians even used their native tongue as a tool to confound the Japanese. By all accounts, the American effort in WWII is nothing short of heroic.

Save one black spot.

Our enemy was Japan and there were plenty of Japanese who were citizens of the United States. Of course, there were citizens of German and Italian descent as well, but they weren’t so obvious. The Japanese looked different. They could be identified and thus associated with the enemy. That bred fear. Fear festered into mania and, before too long, anyone who looked Japanese were rounded up, corralled, and placed in containment camps. They were separated from society. Their rights, privileges, and freedoms as Americans were stripped from them. It was extreme, but it felt justified because it was for the greater good.

Until later.

Now, all these years later, a more enlightened people look at the containment of Japanese Americans as an error, driven by fear. Never again, American elitists, will claim, will we allow fear to strip away the rights of men like that.

Really?

Our nation is once again gripped in a kind of world war. This virus isn’t the first one or even the worst one we have experienced. It’s just the first one we can point to. It has been named, marked, identified by the media. And fear has bred. Such fear that mania has erupted. Fear that makes it seem right even justified to strip away the rights, privileges, and freedoms of American citizens. Our government has taken to confining healthy and hard-working people while at the same time releasing convicted criminals from the prison system. Fear has driven the populace to point out and turn in the offenders of the state orders.

How long will it take for our eyes to open and minds to be enlightened?

How long until we cry out, “Never again”?

And, if and when we do, will it be too late?
